Marcus Wynwood is a guitarist, singer, and songwriter from Tasmania, Australia.
Marcus is an ARIA Performing Artist achieving Number 4 on the ARIA charts, has had a Number 1 on Triple J Unearthed, performed on the main stage at Falls Festival, toured Australia and Overseas.
As a founding member and guitarist in "Captives", an Australian punk rock band, Marcus cowrote, toured, and played guitar on every release since staring the band in 2013 until 2020. Marcus, with Captives, made deals with Cooking Vinyl, Inertia Music, and The Harbour Agency. In 2018, Captives won a Triple J competition to have a music video produced by National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA). Captives and Marcus featured in publications such as "Rolling Stone Magazine", had music videos played on rage and Channel [V], are played on Triple J and Triple M, supported some great bands, and toured the country several times.
A collaboration of incredible Tasmanian artists have come together creating a truly moving, original fundraising song: ‘Light a Candle’, release date the 27th of November 2020. We chose to support Act for Kids, a charity that was formed, to prevent and treat Australia's most vulnerable children suffering from child abuse and neglect.
The track went to Number 4 on the ARIA Charts, and Number 1 on the AIR Charts.
Marcus is a huge supporter of young local musicians, and has been a judge at the Tasmanian Rock Challenge in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2021 and is currently involved as a mentor supporting young musicians. Marcus created and organised a monthly songwriters event to give upcoming original musicians the oppertunity to network and perform, which he ran for 3 years.
